Message from your teachers!

Welcome to this week’s newsletter! We have some pretty exciting news that you may have already heard from your teachers. But we ARE reopening in the fall for the new school year! While we are still working out the exact details, we would absolutely LOVE to hear your input and plans as well! As you check in with your teacher this week, please remember to complete the Parent Survey. Reach out to us if you have questions or concerns about it!

We absolutely value your thoughts and feedback as we make plans to return in the fall, so even after you’ve done the survey, please feel free to express any concerns you may have about reopening to your teacher. In the meantime, please try out these activities and let us know how they went! 🙂

Reminder: Our four program-wide expectations are Be Courageous, Be Curious, Be Compassionate, Be A Community. You’ll find an activity related to these expectations in the newsletter. Let us know how it went!

This week we will focus on how children can Be Courageous.

We are courageous when….

• We try new things for the first time

• We ask questions

• We make a mistake and try again

• We share their own feelings

• We stand up for what is right

Our Book

Primary Objectives
Speaks clearly
Interacts during reading experiences, book conversations, and text reflections

Why it’s important
Children learn about print in meaningful context. Encouraging your child to use illustrations to create and recall text will help them understand that print carries meaning.

Materials
Markers, pens, pencils, or other writing tools; white paper; photographs of your child (photos with friends or relatives, pictures from a family trip or special event, etc.); glue; stapler; tape

What you do
1. Attach one photo to each piece of paper. Staple the pages together along the left side to create a book.
2. Invite your child to look at the picture in the book. Explain that they may talk about what is happening in each picture, and you will write their words on the page. We’ll make a book about what you like to do using these pictures. Then, we can read the book later with the words we’ve written down.
3. Encourage your child to share their ideas about the pictures. Write down her words as she talks about each picture.
4. When the book is finished, read it with your child. Ask them questions about the book as you read together.
5. Encourage them to use the pictures to help them read the book with a friend or family member.

Activities from Teacher Lisa

Be Courageous: Don’t drop the egg!

Give your child a spoon and have them balance a hard-boiled or plastic egg from one point to another either indoors or out. How quickly can they go? Can they dance as they move?

The way this helps children Be Courageous is by helping them strengthen and challenge their balancing skills! (And if you use a plastic or toy egg, it won’t be messy if the egg does drop!)

Math / Science

In case you missed it last time, here’s a video of Teacher Lisa riding a ferry boat! What kinds of nature things do you see? How does a boat that big even move?? Talk with your family, give them ideas on how it might work, and draw a picture! (Text or call your teacher for the password to the video!)

Read about sea animals and talk about the size, color, and shapes of the animals. Each page names a sea animal. Take time to talk about the beginning letters in each name. Older children can practice writing the names and drawing the picture to match. Younger children can draw the animals, name colors, and say letters. The names of the animals can be googled to learn more about their home and characteristics in the sea.
