Volume 23

June 21, 2021

Hello Parents,

NEW CLASS TIME!  Head Start will continue having class as usual throughout the summer. Based on conversations with you all, we will be moving our class time to start at 10:30 and end at 12:30 starting Monday June 28th.  I will edit the class teams invitations and the new times will be emailed to you next week.  Our schedule will be the same, with 30 minute sessions and 15 minute breaks in-between.

GRADUATION!  Later in the summer we will have a graduation celebration for our class friends going to kindergarten.

MUTE!  Also, thank you so much for all of the help you give in getting your children to the class.  Please remember to mute the tablet if there is conversation in the room, and help your child know how to turn her voice back on. If I mute your tablet, I cannot turn your voice back on!

I appreciate you all so much!

Teacher Laura

I WONDER……

What things can you do close to your home this summer? Can you:

  • ride your bike?
  • play at the park with friends?
  • eat ice cream?

DRAW A PICTURE OF WHAT YOU WILL DO THIS SUMMER.

Who is in your picture? What colors will you use?

Problem Solving

30 minutes

GO ON A SUMMER LEAF WALK

Go for a summer walk with mom or dad and collect 5 different leaves.

What is the SAME about your leaves?

Do they all have a stem?

Do they all have lines in them?

Do they feel the same?

In what ways are the leaves DIFFERENT

from each other?

Are they different colors?  Different shapes?

What else is different?

Social Emotional

30 minutes

Can you find 3 times to say “thank you” today?

Who made your lunch?  Did you say “thank you?”

Who helped you so you could see this newsletter?  Did you say “thank you?”

Who else can you say thank you to today?

MAKE IT:    Have mom or dad help you make a “thankful book” with folded and stapled paper.  (Or you can use your journal. )

Every day think of one thing you are thankful for or one person you are thankful for. Write what you are thankful for in your book, or draw a picture.

By the end of the summer your book will be full!

Here are some ideas:  maybe you are thankful for mom, dad, family, friends, animals, sunshine, food, grass, music, books or toys.  What else can you think of?

Movement / Play

SUMMER IS HERE, LET’S GO PLAY

OPEN UP THE DOOR, IT’S A BIG SUNNY DAY

SO MUCH TO SEE, SO MUCH TO DO…

Activity 1:     Hey, let’s jump in a puddle. Oh no! There’s mud in the puddle!

Squish, squish, squish squish squish

Activity 2:     Hey, let’s climb a tree. Oh no! There’s a tiger in this tree!

Quick, jump down and run, run, run, run run!

Activity 3:     Hey, lets go swimming!  Oh no! There’s a whale in the water!

“Hey Mr. Whale, you want to go swimming?”

Swim, swim, swim, swim, swim

Activity 4:      Hey I’m tired. Let’s take a nap

Yawn, stretch, yawn and stretch

SUMMER IS HERE!
