Welcome to this week’s learning resource! We hope you and your families are doing well and trying your best to stay as safe as possible. We continue to encourage you to consult with your healthcare providers about getting vaccinated against COVID-19. As the weather cools down, we also hope you will reach out to us if you need assistance finding warm clothes! We have wonderful Family Advocates who can help you find resources.
Quick reminder that on Labor Day, September 6, Neighborhood House will be CLOSED as it is a federal holiday.

Shoe Hunt: Math Game – Invite your child to go on a shoe hunt. Count the number of shoes each family member has. Count how many different types of shoes are in your house. How many have laces? How many have Velcro or buckles? Do you wear them indoors or outdoors? Do you slip them on? Count how many pairs of shoes Teach your child how to count by twos. Line the shoes up from biggest to smallest. Get out a tape measure or ruler and measure the shoes.

Be Compassionate – Rain Boy Book
With your child, watch this video of Teacher Anna reading the book. The story is about differences, acceptance, and loving yourself for who you are. Wherever he goes, Rain Boy brings wet—which means he’s not very popular. Sun Kidd brings sunshine everywhere she goes, so everyone loves her. Only Sun Kidd sees what’s special about Rain Boy. After watching the video with your child ask them, “How do you think Rain Boy felt when all the children were teasing him?” and “If you were in the story what would you do to help Rain Boy feel supported?”

Fun with Measuring. What do we use to measure?
Line up shoes, cars, pencils, or anything you can use to measure and compare.
Questions to answer:
How long is the shortest car? Longest Car? Which number is bigger, more, less?
Name the number that is measured out. Match the number with the size of the object.
What else can you measure? What are other ways to measure?
