From Dreams to Dishes: Jumpin Jambalaya Brings Cajun-Creole Flavor to the Community

September 30, 2025

At Neighborhood House, we believe that when people are given the tools and support they need, they can build brighter futures for themselves and their families. Few stories capture that better than Youpa’s journey.

When she first connected with Neighborhood House through our Economic Security for All (EcSA) program and its Matched Investment Savings Account (MISA), Youpa was looking for stability and opportunity. With dedication and persistence, she used the matched savings program to secure stable housing for herself and her daughter and to begin building the foundation that would allow her to pursue her dream: sharing the flavors of her culture through food.

That dream came to life as Jumpin Jambalaya, a restaurant business bringing the bold, soulful tastes of Cajun and Creole cuisine to Seattle, Renton, Kent, and surrounding communities. From the very beginning, Youpa poured her passion into her cooking, creating dishes that tell a story of resilience, flavor, and joy.

But her success didn’t stop there. As Jumpin Jambalaya grew, she made it her mission not just to build a business, but to create opportunities for others. She has already hired two employees, and is now returning to Neighborhood House to hire out of our employment programs—demonstrating her commitment to giving back to the same community that supported her journey.

For Youpa, Jumpin Jambalaya is more than just a business. It’s a way to honor her roots, provide for her family, and inspire others who may be walking a similar path. She often shares her gratitude for the resources and encouragement she received from Neighborhood House, reminding us that success is never just about one person—it’s about the power of community.

We are proud to celebrate her achievements and to have been part of her story. And if you’re in the mood for food that feeds both body and soul, look no further than Jumpin Jambalaya.
