History
Southeast Seattle service providers & Aki Kurose Middle School staff launched the SE Seattle P.E.A.C.E. Coalition (Prevention Education and Action for Community Empowerment) in 2012 to ensure kids are safe, healthy, and happy so they can learn. The Coalition brings together all sectors of the community, including parents, schools, students, youth serving organizations, local media, business owners and religious leaders.
Mission
The P.E.A.C.E. Coalition plans and implements drug and alcohol prevention and mental health promotion services in Southeast Seattle, with a special focus on Aki Kurose Middle School.
The Coalition is one of nearly 100 communities statewide participating in the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI), funded by the Washington State Health Care Authority, with King County, and Puget Sound Educational Service District. Neighborhood House staffs the coalition to implement community prevention strategies that will lead to a positive effect on youth, families and communities in SE Seattle.

Hello Future
Hello Future’s vision is that youth will be mentally and physically healthy. This will allow teens to stay in school so they can graduate to have a successful life, career, a safe place to live, become leaders in the community, and achieve their dreams.

Sources of Strength
Sources of Strength allows student peer leaders at Aki Kurose Middle School and Franklin High School to learn about mental health promotion and suicide prevention and create prevention campaigns at their schools and in the community. These students are bringing prevention messaging directly to their peers in ways they can relate!
Refusal Skills
Refusal Skills help youth avoid drugs, alcohol and other trouble. The easy to use S.T.O.P. model helps youth keep themselves and their friends safe and make positive choices without shutting out their friends.

Sessions are interactive and skill based, with opportunities for parents to practice new skills and receive feedback, and use short videos to demonstrate parenting skills. Families also receive a Family Guide containing family activities, discussion topics, skill-building exercises, and information on positive parenting.
- FREE Dinner and Childcare provided during sessions
- Full program typically includes five 2 hr sessions
- Offered in 7 different languages
Background/Goal: GGC is based on research that shows that consistent, positive parental involvement is important to helping children resist substance use and other antisocial behaviors.
