Youth Employment Case Manager

Status: Regular, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year
Hiring Range: 16 ($19.82 to $21.99 per hour)
Location: Kent Learning Center

The Success in Education, Employment and Career (SEEC) Youth Case Manager is responsible for assisting at-risk youth (ages 16-24) with educational and employability skills to help them succeed. This includes supporting them in their educational attainments, introducing them to post-secondary or training options, and encouraging their career development, amidst difficult situations they face. The staff will assist youth in finding and retaining employment, which will require soliciting and maintaining opportunities with local educational institutions and employers. The SEEC Youth Case Manager will also provide individual support and group activities with youth, and help access supportive or other human services to meet their immediate needs. This position is located in Kent, serving youth and young adults in South King County.
This program is part of the County-wide Out-of-School Youth Consortium, and is funded by the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Eligible out-of-school youth will be recruited from various referral sources to attain educational and career goals in this program. We are seeking a highly organized and highly driven individual to provide direct high-quality youth case management services, including extensive administrative duties.

- Develop and maintain effective relationships with at-risk youth and young adults.
- Mediate, problem-solve and coordinate individual services for clients to eliminate barriers to their educational and career success.
- Outreach and recruit eligible youth and young adults.
- Develop individual training and education plans with youth to keep them on track to complete academic and career goals in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers, coordinate and monitor work- based training sites.
- Provide career development guidance, and provide job search and job retention training.
- Develop effective relationships with educational institutions including high schools, reengagement centers, community and technical colleges to provide GED/High School completion options, together with post-secondary options.
- Partner with other agencies and programs to coordinate group activity and training as needed for youth.
- Provide post-secondary education opportunities through career pathways, apprenticeships and other training options for clients.
- Assess youth for additional social, health, education or employment needs, and make timely referrals to appropriate providers.
- Attend and participate intently at various agency, school and community meetings to build networks of resources.
- Determine client eligibility and track participant activities and achievements.
- Complete extensive technical documentation to meet regular deadlines.
- Become familiar with complex regulations and provide services within this program framework.
- Attend regular professional development trainings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- AA degree in Human Services, Social Work, Education or a related field. Relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of education.
- 2-4 years of providing case management to at-risk youth, including counseling and coordination of services to attain education and employment goals.
- Experience conducting group activities, trainings, and classes/workshops.
- Demonstrated understanding of labor market, local employer base, WorkSource system, social services and education systems in South King County.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, clients and partners.
- Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurial, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Current First Aid certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
- Current CPR certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
- Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.
- Child Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).
- Must pass Neighborhood House background check requirement.
- Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.
- BA/BS degree in Human Services, Social Work, Education or related field.
- Bi-lingual ability preferred, with English skills sufficient to communicate and prepare documents in English.
