Message from your teachers! 

Hello Parents! 

We appreciate your patience as we continue to prepare for the new school year 2021 – 2022.  Our priority is ensuring the best way to open the doors safely.  We will continue talking with you every week and hope you will share any concerns.  Please look for the weekly Learning Resources and Tools of the Mind link.   There are many activities to do at home and your child for your child to do alone.   Always feel free to contact your child’s Teacher with questions or concerns.

A recent post in Public Health Insider highlights three COVID-19 outbreaks, including a child care, and helps shed light on what our whole community can do to be safer: 

            Back to School Vaccine Clinics for Children 4 – 18 years of age.  

Scores of kids have missed  routine childhood vaccines over the course of the pandemic – vaccines that prevent serious diseases like measles and whooping cough. Getting kids up-to-date on routine vaccines now helps prevent outbreaks, illness, and more missed school days. Free back-to-school vaccine clinics will offer all vaccines required for school for children ages 4-18 and COVID vaccine for anyone eligible.  

  • Saturday, August 7, 10am-2pm at the Kent YMCA. This is part of a bigger health fair hosted by Latinos Promoviendo la Buena Salud. No appointment needed.  
  • Wednesday, August 11, 3pm-7pm at the Renton High School Health Center. Appointments encouraged but not required.

Read this book with your child and talk about the different types of food you see in the book. Talk about the food you eat at home and foods from other cultures that you have tried. Plan to try a new dish together from a culture not of your own.

Read or listen to the Book from the link below.  Talk with your child about what happens when they visit the Doctor or Dentist and why it’s important.  Let them draw what they think it will look like and write the words they use to describe their pictures.

Sorting colors in nature

Outdoor color hunt

An outdoor color hunt is as simple as it sounds. The object is to find items and sort them into different color categories. 

Instructions: Grab a box that we already owned and color it in each section with crayons. You can use a cardboard box to do this or just skip the box and sort the colors on a table at home if a box is unavailable.

This outdoor color hunt/sorting helps kids to pay closer attention to details in their environment. As your child chooses the colors I would say what the item is and match it to the correct color. 

  • Examples: You found brown bark and it comes from the tree. Look at these yellow petals. Let’s match these yellow petals to the flowers in our book to see what it’s called. You found green grass. I see you put it in the green section or sorted it with the green leaf.
