How Do Apples Grow?
Try this Experiment at Home!

Materials: 4 jars, (frascos) oil (aceite), vinegar (vinagre), water (agua), an apple (una manzana)
The apple, exposed to air, started to oxidize. The apple in the vinegar had brown spots all over it. The apples in the water oxidized a bit, but compared to the other apples in liquid it was not that much. In the oil, the apples also oxidized a bit. Another liquid to use in this experiment would be lemon juice.
Definition of oxidize-when the apples meet the oxygen in the air and begin to react by turning brown.
La manzana, expuesta al aire, comenzó a oxidarse. La manzana en el vinagre tenía manchas marrones por todas partes. Video: “Let’s Go to An Apple Orchard”

After reading the book and watching the video, draw and cut apples out of paper or cardboard and then write each letter of your child’s name on an apple. After that, ask your child to arrange the apples in order as if she is writing it. Ask your child how many apples she needed. Lastly, review and explain that is the number of letters written in her name. If you would like, you can do the same with everyone in the family to compare which name is longer or shorter.
Después de leer el libro y ver el video, dibuje y corte manzanas en papel o cartón y luego escriba cada letra del nombre de su hijo en una manzana. Problem Solving

Parents: Copy and paste the apple maze into a new blank sheet of paper and print it if possible. If not, draw the apple maze in any kind of paper or cardboard, and have your child help the worm find its way out of the whole in the maze.

After everyone has had a turn, have an apple snack and read your favorite apple story! So much fun!! Children will develop language and memory skills as well as learning to take turns!

Zigzag Running Lines
Objectives
– Children will develop motor skills.
– Children will improve balance and coordination.
Materials needed
– Craft tape or chalk
Getting started
– You will need a large, open area for this activity.
– Using colored craft tape or chalk, make different zigzag lines on the ground.
– If more than one child is participating, space the lines apart so that children do not bump into each other.
Activity
1. Point out the lines and ask the child to describe them. Are the lines straight or curvy?
2. Inform the child tha he or she will be running on these lines. Model how to start at the beginning of the line and run to the slope at the end. When the child reaches the shape, he or she has completed that line.
3. After the child has seen you run the different zigzag lines, invite the child to try it.
